A performance calculator for land vehicles.
MotorSim 2 is a performance calculator for land vehicles. Please note that this application is not a driving game; it performs a physics-based simulation of vehicle acceleration in a straight line.
MotorSim 2 lets you configure technical specifications and calculates the resulting performance. It features an interactive simulator with a speedometer, RPM gauge, throttle, brake, and gear shift (manual or automatic), complete with a procedurally generated engine sound (not sampled) and a visualization of the vehicle's position on a quarter-mile track. After testing a configuration, you can save a ghost car to later compare its performance against other setups.
Configurable vehicle parameters include:
- Maximum Power
- Power curve (definable point by point).
- Torque curve (since power = torque × RPM, defining the power curve automatically sets the torque curve).
- Maximum engine RPM (ignition cutoff).
- Gearbox configuration (up to 10 gears).
- Resistances (drag coefficient, frontal area, and rolling resistance coefficients).
- Vehicle weight.
- Tire size.
- Shift time.
- Transmission efficiency.
Calculated performance metrics are:
- Top speed.
- Acceleration times: 0-60, 0-100, 0-200, 0-300, and beyond.
- ...plus any other metric you can measure using the interactive simulator.
