11 Bit Studios Draws Parallels Between This War of Mine and The Alters

Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has released a new trailer for their upcoming sci-fi adventure, The Alters, highlighting its connection to their critically acclaimed war survival game, This War of Mine. While This War of Mine is renowned for its grim portrayal of wartime survival, The Alters offers a surprisingly vibrant and humorous narrative, following the adventures of alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite their contrasting tones, both games share a core thematic element: survival.

In This War of Mine, players grapple with the brutal realities of war, meticulously managing resources and facing daily challenges to keep their civilian group alive within a besieged city. The Alters, however, presents a different kind of survival—a race against a relentless, dust-inducing sun, requiring players to constantly relocate their mobile base.

Both games challenge players to confront hostile environments and scavenge for limited resources. The key distinction lies in the playable characters: This War of Mine focuses on a group of ordinary civilians, whereas The Alters features a unique team comprised of alternate versions of the main character, promising a fresh and engaging experience.

The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on launch day.
