Paradox Interactive, publisher of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, is processing full refunds for players who pre-ordered the game on PlayStation Store. This decision follows intense backlash over locking the Toreador and Lasombra clans behind a paywall.

On September 6, the official Bloodlines 2 Twitter (X) account confirmed that PlayStation pre-orders will be refunded on September 8. Players can choose to repurchase the game at any time before its October 21 release. While not explicitly mentioned, those who pre-ordered on Steam or Xbox Store can expect standard refund policies to apply.

Priced at $21.99, the Shadows & Silk DLC adds the Toreador and Lasombra clans along with their unique outfits and gameplay styles. Players reacted strongly, arguing these clans are essential to the core Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines experience and should not be locked behind a paywall.

In Bloodlines, vampire clans function like core classes in an RPG. Omitting them—especially the iconic Toreador—feels like removing a vital piece of the story and gameplay that built the series’ devoted fanbase since the original tabletop game and 2004 CRPG.

The Chinese Room, Bloodlines 2’s developer, explained in a Rock Paper Shotgun interview that the Toreador and Lasombra clans were developed outside the original scope of the sequel, leading to their inclusion as DLC. Narrative Director Ian Thomas stated the game was delayed further to “fatten it out into something that we feel does land where the players want it.”

In the same Twitter (X) announcement, the team confirmed major “adjustments” are underway. No specifics have been shared yet, but details are expected on September 17. This has led some Reddit users to speculate that the Day 1 Shadows & Silk DLC may be removed and the two clans integrated into the base game.

Not all fans are hopeful. Others fear Paradox and The Chinese Room may restructure the DLC to include extra content, potentially turning the clans into a pre-order bonus with paid post-launch access for non-preorders.

The growing speculation reflects deep disappointment among fans. With more changes now confirmed, some worry that despite six years of delays, Paradox may delay the game again.
