Hulu may be bringing Buffy back from the dead! Variety reports a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is in the works, with Sarah Michelle Gellar potentially reprising her iconic role as the vampire slayer. While the series will focus on a new Slayer, Gellar's involvement is rumored to be as a recurring character.
Adding to the excitement, Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao (known for Nomadland and Eternals) is reportedly in talks to direct and executive produce. Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write and serve as showrunners. Notably, original series creator Joss Whedon is not involved in this reboot.
Whedon's absence follows previous accusations of creating a toxic work environment during the original *Buffy* and *Angel* productions.Plot details remain scarce, but the reboot will center around a new Slayer, with the possibility of Gellar's return as Buffy.
The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer followed Buffy Summers, a high school student chosen to fight demons, vampires, and other supernatural creatures. Aided by her friends Willow Rosenberg, Xander Harris, and Watcher Rupert Giles, she battled evil for seven seasons (1997-2003). The story continued through the spin-off series, Angel, and subsequent comic books.
