Marvel Comics is launching a refreshed monthly Captain America series featuring an all-new creative team and storyline that explores Steve Rogers' critical early days after awakening from suspended animation. The series will notably depict Captain America's historic first meeting with Doctor Doom.
Announced at ComicsPro, the relaunch will be helmed by writer Chip Zdarsky (known for Batman and Daredevil) alongside artist Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers), with colorist Frank D'Armata completing the team. This marks their creative reunion after collaborating on 2017's Marvel 2-in-One.

The narrative begins shortly after Steve Rogers' modern-era discovery and thawing. Upon rejoining the US Army, Captain America's inaugural mission partners him with the Howling Commandos to infiltrate Latveria - now under the iron grip of a rising Doctor Doom. While transitioning to present-day Marvel continuity, these foundational events will profoundly shape Zdarsky and Schiti's ongoing saga.
"As a lifelong Captain America fan, writing Avengers: Twilight's veteran Cap was incredible, but helming the flagship title is genuinely dreamlike," Zdarsky revealed. "We're reimagining Cap's modern-era origins with revelations that will stun readers. Valerio and Frank's stunning artwork makes this collaboration even more thrilling."
Zdarsky elaborated, "My approach mirrors my Daredevil work - deeply exploring Cap's psychology through grounded character study. Steve Rogers epitomizes humanity's finest qualities, and we're ensuring that resonates powerfully throughout."

"Captain America ranks among my most cherished characters," Schiti shared. "Reuniting with Chip and Frank post-Marvel 2-In-One feels electric. This story masterfully blends emotional depth with pulse-pounding action, but what surprised me most was becoming increasingly fascinated by Steve Rogers himself - not just the super-soldier."
Schiti added, "Chip's brilliant script immerses readers in Steve's psyche. Here's a man who embodies truth and liberty, fought Nazism, sacrificed everything, then miraculously returned to continue serving. Remarkably, during our storyline's period, he's still just in his late twenties - bearing unimaginable responsibility."
Captain America #1 hits stands July 2, 2025.
