Toby Fox, the creative mind behind Deltarune, recently shared a development update, offering fans a glimpse into the progress of the highly anticipated game. Let's dive into the details from his latest newsletter.
Deltarune Chapter 4: Almost Ready, But Not Quite
In his Halloween 2023 newsletter, Fox confirmed the simultaneous release of Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 for PC, Switch, and PS4. While Chapter 4 is nearing completion—all maps are finished and battles are playable—some polishing remains. Minor improvements are needed for two cutscenes, one battle requires balancing and visual enhancements, another needs a better background, and two battle endings need refining. Despite this, Fox considers Chapter 4 essentially playable, receiving positive feedback from testers.
The multi-platform and multilingual release presents significant challenges, especially given that this is the first major paid release since Undertale. Fox emphasizes the importance of taking extra time to ensure the game meets their high standards.
Before the release, several key tasks remain: testing new functions, finalizing PC and console versions, Japanese localization, and thorough bug testing.
Chapter 3 development is complete (as announced in February's newsletter). Interestingly, while Chapter 4 is being finalized, early work on Chapter 5 has already begun, with map drafting and bullet pattern design underway.
While a specific release date remains unannounced, the newsletter provided exciting teases: dialogue between Ralsei and Rouxls, a character description for Elnina, and a new item called GingerGuard. The anticipation is palpable, especially considering Fox's statement that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will be longer than Chapters 1 and 2.
Despite the extended wait, Fox expresses confidence that future chapter releases will be smoother following the launch of Chapters 3 and 4. The journey continues!
