Dragon Quest 3 Remake: Unlocking the Secrets of the Yellow Orb

The Yellow Orb in Dragon Quest 3 Remake proves to be a particularly challenging collectible among the six colored orbs. While the steps aren't overly complex, finding the starting point can be tricky. This guide will illuminate the path, explaining how to obtain this elusive orb.

The Yellow Orb resides in a town initially marked only as "???" on the map. This town's name is determined by the merchant you establish there. Successfully building this village is key to acquiring the orb.

Locating Merchantburg (???)

After delivering Black Pepper to the King of Portoga and obtaining your ship, Merchantburg becomes accessible. Its location is in the northeast corner of the world map (easily found using quest markers). You can reach it by sailing west from the coast to the easternmost edge of the eastern continent.

Optimal Timing for Merchantburg

While orb acquisition order is flexible, establishing Merchantburg early is highly recommended. The town requires significant growth time before yielding the Yellow Orb. Establishing it early allows you to pursue other orbs concurrently, returning to Merchantburg as needed.

Obtaining the Yellow Orb

Establishing Merchantburg: Before heading to Merchantburg (???), hire a new merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat en route, given your new party member's vulnerability.

Upon arriving, enter the lone building. Speak to the old man who desires to found a town but needs a merchant. Offer your newly hired merchant; they'll leave your party and establish the town, revealing its name.

Merchantburg's Growth:

After establishing the town, proceed to acquire the Purple Orb (Orochi's Lair) and the Blue Orb (Gaia's Navel). You'll receive notifications prompting you to return to Merchantburg as it grows through five stages. Each visit reveals a larger town, culminating in a cabaret's construction. On your fourth visit, note the merchant's growing arrogance, foreshadowing his downfall and the orb's imminent availability.

Claiming the Yellow Orb:

Visit Merchantburg at night during your fifth visit. The merchant will be absent, having been overthrown by the townsfolk. He's imprisoned in the house south of his former residence. Speak to the imprisoned merchant to learn the Yellow Orb's location. Return to the merchant's house; a quest marker behind the sofa indicates the orb's hiding place.

The Yellow Orb is typically among the last orbs acquired. Other orb locations include: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
