- Dragon Quest X, one of the series' most recent installments, is making its way to mobile platforms exclusively in Japan
- Japanese players can purchase Dragon Quest X Complete Edition with offline functionality at a special launch discount
- Unfortunately, there's no indication of a worldwide release at this time
Dedicated Dragon Quest enthusiasts know the franchise's extensive catalog well, including its various spin-offs. The unique MMORPG-inspired Dragon Quest X unfortunately didn't receive as much attention as it deserved. Exciting news for Japanese fans - they'll soon be able to enjoy the newly launched offline version on their mobile devices, arriving tomorrow for both iOS and Android!
According to Gematsu's report, Japanese players can acquire Dragon Quest X Offline Complete Edition through premium purchase on mobile platforms. Interestingly, Ubitu had initially planned to bring Dragon Quest X to mobile devices all the way back in 2013.
Dragon Quest X stands apart from other series entries with its MMORPG-style mechanics including real-time combat. The offline adaptation first launched for consoles and PC in 2022, a decade after the original's 2012 debut.
The Reality Check
Unfortunately, international fans shouldn't expect imminent news about localization. While not entirely impossible, the original Dragon Quest X remained exclusive to Japan, and currently there's no indication the offline mobile version will break that pattern.
This comes as disappointing news for dedicated fans like myself who spent countless hours enjoying Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. The prospect of experiencing a different perspective of the series on mobile devices would have been particularly appealing.
