ROME: Total War has launched a major free update for Android users. Feral Interactive introduced the Imperium Update, delivering numerous gameplay refinements, enhanced controls, and quality-of-life upgrades.
Fans of this acclaimed strategy game, which debuted on Android in 2018, will discover multiple enhancements and fresh features. The same update will arrive shortly for the standalone expansions Barbarian Invasion and Alexander.
Key Features of the Imperium Update
The update incorporates top-performing mechanics from Feral's newer mobile titles like Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE. Players now have three innovative control schemes: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection.
These additions provide superior unit management and more tactical battlefield control. Moving armies, agents, or fleets is simplified—just tap and hold instead of manually dragging paths.
Positioning Mode enables pixel-perfect unit placement through tap-and-hold gestures, while the Group Grid streamlines unit organization with a collapsible menu. Melee Mode allows archers to seamlessly engage in close-quarters combat when appropriate.
A game-changing addition is Command Slowdown, which automatically reduces speed during complex order sequences. Notably, Android and iPad versions now support keyboard and mouse inputs.
The redesigned minimap mirrors MEDIEVAL II's functionality with smoother zooming and navigation. A dedicated reset button instantly returns players to the default view.
Android players can download the update immediately via Google Play. The Barbarian Invasion and Alexander expansions will receive identical updates next week.
