Lost Fantasy reunites Pires with Money artist Luca Casalanguida. The premiere issue showcases cover variants by Casalanguida, Alex Diotto, Darick Robertson, and Jae Lee. The series will also include Indigo Children: Exodus as a serialized backup story, continuing Pires' sci-fi narrative from Indigo Children.
Here's Image Comics' official synopsis:
In Lost Fantasy, a hidden magical realm exists beneath our world, with first contact occurring over a century ago when a cataclysmic event created a rift between dimensions - unleashing monstrous creatures into our reality. Since then, an elite group of monster hunters called The Great Hunters has secretly collaborated with world governments to patrol this dimensional breach. But when a mysterious mass killing occurs in Montana, rookie hunter Henry Blackheart must confront a threat that could unravel the fragile balance between both worlds.
"Returning to Image with Lost Fantasy is incredibly exciting," Pires tells IGN. "This series blends the gritty appeal of Western comics like East of West with the rich storytelling mechanics of the JRPGs that shaped me. Our protagonist's spiked hair and massive sword directly honor Tetsuya Nomura's iconic Cloud design from Final Fantasy VII."
Pires adds, "The title also pays subtle tribute to Hironobu Sakaguchi's brilliant but underappreciated Lost Odyssey - making this a heartfelt celebration of JRPGs at their core."
Lost Fantasy #1 arrives on April 30, 2025.
