Switch 2 Home Menu Navigates via Joy-Con Mouse Controls

by Joshua Jun 19,2026

Nintendo has officially confirmed that players can navigate the Switch 2's Home screen using the new Joy-Con mouse controls.

Since the Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled, fans have been curious about the mouse functionality of the new Joy-Con. Last month, Nintendo officially revealed that the Joy-Con features a "mouse mode." This mode allows players to slide the controllers on a flat surface, using the analog sticks to perform left-click and right-click actions, similar to a standard computer mouse. It's even possible to use two Joy-Con in mouse mode at once—one in each hand—or pair one in regular mode with another in mouse mode.

The details are even clearer now. A demonstration on the Nintendo Today app, which was shared on X (formerly Twitter), shows that the Joy-Con 2's mouse controls can be used to browse the Switch 2's Home menu.

"If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen," explained Nintendo. "To make the cursor appear, set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or other flat surface and move it as shown.

"With mouse mode active, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," the company added, "[and] use the mouse controls on the Home menu and in supported software." To return to using the thumbstick for navigation, simply lift the Joy-Con 2 back into a horizontal position.

It remains to be seen how many games will support mouse controls, but Nintendo has demonstrated the feature with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball title Drag x Drive.
