Succession standout Kieran Culkin has officially joined Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping film adaptation as a younger Caesar Flickerman, ending months of speculation.
Lionsgate confirmed the casting via X/Twitter, announcing Culkin's role as the eccentric Hunger Games television host for next year's prequel. The question of who would portray Flickerman had kept fans guessing since rumors first emerged. With the confirmation now official, anticipation builds for Lionsgate's latest Hunger Games installment.
Sunrise on the Reaping serves as another prequel for the franchise, following 2023’s The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes but preceding Jennifer Lawrence’s original Hunger Games films from the 2010s. Stanley Tucci famously portrayed the older Flickerman in those movies, meaning Culkin faces a formidable task in making the younger version his own.
"Kieran's magnetic charisma and quick wit make him ideal for Caesar Flickerman, the unnervingly charismatic face of Panem’s brutal games," said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-President Erin Westerman. "Stanley Tucci created an iconic version of the character—now Kieran will reinvent him for a new era."

Culkin has cemented himself as a powerhouse in recent years, particularly through his Emmy-winning role as Roman Roy in Succession and his BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Oscar-winning performance in last year’s A Real Pain. Longtime moviegoers may also recall his early work in classics like Father of the Bride (1991) and Home Alone (1990), where he starred opposite his brother Macaulay. His sharp comedic timing and dramatic range make him a perfect fit for the morally ambiguous gameshow host.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters on November 20, 2026, adapting Suzanne Collins’ novel with Culkin starring alongside an all-star cast including Ralph Fiennes (Conclave, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) as President Coriolanus Snow, Elle Fanning (Super 8) as Effie Trinket, Jesse Plemons (Civil War, Breaking Bad) as Plutarch Heavensbee, and Joseph Zada (Total Control) as Haymitch Abernathy.
