Amazon has unveiled a new behind-the-scenes look at The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power as production continues on the extravagant third season of the series.
The brief social media video features Elendil (portrayed once again by Peter McKenzie) preparing for combat. Clad in armor, the actor is seen retrieving the iconic sword Narsil and standing poised along a coastal shore.
Elendil was presented with Narsil in the latest episode of Rings of Power, "Shadow and Flame," which served as the season two finale that aired in October 2024. Still located in Númenor, Elendil receives the sword from Queen Míriel after her deposition and is instructed to depart and reclaim his title—presumably a task he is now undertaking.

Filming for season three of Rings of Power commenced in May and remains ongoing four months later. Amazon previously revealed that the series will advance chronologically in its upcoming episodes, resuming "at the peak of the war between the Elves and Sauron as the Dark Lord works to forge the One Ring."
This initial sneak peek appears to mark the beginning of a series of teasers highlighting the arcs of key characters from Rings of Power while audiences anticipate an official premiere date for season three.
The show previously concluded with its eleven main characters united in their determination to defeat Sauron, who currently possesses the nine rings given to men. Additionally, Gandalf finally adopts his well-known name, and Elendil’s son, Isildur, begins his journey back to Númenor.
Naturally, viewers familiar with The Lord of the Rings lore know what lies ahead. As depicted in the prologue of the films, Sauron is ultimately defeated by Isildur, who severs the Dark Lord's finger holding the One Ring using Narsil. (Though the sword breaks, it is reforged millennia later into Andúril for Aragorn to wield in The Return of the King.)
Meanwhile, pre-production is accelerating on The Hunt for Gollum, a new Lord of the Rings prequel film. Actor and director Andy Serkis has arrived in New Zealand ahead of shooting commencing. Recently, Sir Ian McKellen confirmed that both Gandalf and Frodo will return in this upcoming movie, although their specific roles remain undisclosed.
