Even after more than a decade, *Metro 2033* remains a fan favorite, enjoying a resurgence in popularity thanks to the VR exclusive *Metro Awakening*. This pivotal entry in Artyom's journey primarily unfolds within Moscow's subterranean tunnels. The game's first encounters with anomalies occur at Turgenevskaya station (also known as The Cursed Station in the game and in the books), followed by a challenging mission where Artyom and Khan aid survivors under relentless nosalis attacks.
This mission often proves tricky due to unclear objectives and the station's confusing layout. After witnessing an anomaly decimate a nosalis horde, Khan proceeds to the next station via railcar, initiating the "Cursed" mission. Exiting the railcar, follow Khan through the tunnel to the defenders guarding the barricaded escalators.
Locating the Bomb
The defenders explain that an explosives crew attempted to collapse the tunnel, preventing further nosalis incursions, but went missing. Artyom must locate and detonate the bomb. Expect constant nosalis attacks throughout the mission. If overwhelmed, retreat to the defenders for support; you'll likely need to do this at least once while searching.
The bomb is located at the far end of the right-hand tunnel. Avoid the ghostly shadows directly ahead—they'll damage you. Once you have the bomb, either proceed to the adjacent tunnel or retreat to the defenders if necessary.
Destroying the Tunnel
To detonate the bomb, enter the left-hand tunnel (from the defenders' perspective) and wait for the cutscene. Artyom automatically plants and lights the fuse; escape quickly to avoid the blast. A grenade or pipe bomb thrown into the same area will also collapse the tunnel. Note: Nosalises will still infiltrate through other routes, so remain vigilant.
Destroying the Airlock
To fully secure the station, destroy the airlock. Ascend the stairs on the right of the main platform to the torchlit area (ignoring any nosalises). Interact with the support columns to plant and detonate a pipe bomb, then evacuate immediately. With both tunnel entrances destroyed, follow Khan to the shrine room and the next mission, "Armory," after a brief conversation.
