Obtaining Filler Metal in NieR: Automata: A Comprehensive Guide
Acquiring certain upgrade materials in NieR: Automata proves more challenging than others. Many drop from enemies, but some, like Filler Metal, are randomly found in the overworld. This inherent randomness necessitates a degree of farming.
Early in the game, Filler Metal requires exploration of the Factory's depths. However, later, purchasing it becomes a viable (albeit expensive) alternative.
Locating Filler Metal in the Factory
Filler Metal spawns infrequently in specific locations within the Factory. These locations vary with each playthrough. Filler Metal boasts the lowest spawn rate compared to other items. Accessing the Factory: Hanger fast travel point post-main story progression significantly streamlines the search. Note that you might need to unlock this access point again depending on your story progress.
While increased movement speed aids the search, reliably farming Filler Metal remains impossible. Your best strategy is to thoroughly explore the Factory, collecting all naturally spawning items. However, purchasing it offers a more efficient, albeit costly, solution.
Purchasing Filler Metal
The only vendor selling Filler Metal is the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park. However, this option unlocks only after completing all three playthroughs and obtaining a final ending. Using Chapter Select to revisit the Shopkeeper after completing the game will reveal Filler Metal in its inventory, priced at 11,250G per unit.
Despite the high cost, buying Filler Metal provides a far more reliable method than repeated Factory runs. The Pod upgrades requiring Filler Metal are crucial for game completion, as enemies scale to high levels.
