Every Nintendo Console Tier List

by Grace Feb 28,2025

Nintendo's Switch 2 is finally here, marking another chapter in the company's impressive 40+ year history of video game hardware. While initial impressions suggest a cautious approach, we're excited to see what Nintendo has in store. This article delves into the Switch 2 trailer details, but first, let's revisit Nintendo's console legacy.

Over the decades, Nintendo has released eight home consoles (NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, and Switch) and five handhelds (Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, DS, and 3DS). Ranking them is a subjective task, considering both hardware innovation and the quality of their game libraries. My personal ranking, factoring in these elements, is presented below:

Simon Cardy's Nintendo Console Tier List

The NES holds a special place, filled with nostalgic memories of classics like Super Mario Bros. and Mega Man 2. The Switch, with its innovative hybrid design and standout titles like Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Odyssey, equally deserves top billing.

Feel free to disagree! Create your own Nintendo console tier list and compare your rankings (S, A, B, C, and D tiers) with the IGN community.
