Nintendo Switch 2 Boosts Original Games' Performance

by Joshua Oct 19,2025

Nintendo has released a list of Nintendo Switch games that will receive complimentary performance enhancements on the upcoming Switch 2, detailing the upgrades players can anticipate.

Titles including ARMS, Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom are all slated for performance optimizations on the new hardware.

Below is an official statement from Nintendo’s website:

By connecting your Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet and performing a system update, you can download free updates for selected games that may improve graphics or add support for features such as GameShare. The contents of these free updates will differ depending on the game.

It’s important to note these are free enhancements, separate from the premium Switch 2 Edition upgrades (or, for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, free updates for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers).

So what exactly can Switch 2 owners look forward to? For Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, players will experience improved image quality on high-resolution TVs and a smoother framerate for more fluid gameplay.

Super Mario Odyssey, meanwhile, gains HDR support and GameShare functionality, enabling two players to team up online—one controlling Mario, the other guiding Cappy. Further details are outlined below.

Curiously, Nintendo’s list makes no mention of framerate fixes for the two top-down Zelda titles, an unexpected and disappointing omission given their known performance issues.
