Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

The Pokémon Company confirms no immediate plans to integrate Pokémon TCG Pocket into its competitive esports circuit. This decision, revealed by Chris Brown, Director of eSports, in a recent VGC interview (February 25, 2025), doesn't preclude future consideration, but currently, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't on the roster. Brown playfully mentioned Pokémon Sleep as another example of a title not currently in the competitive mix, highlighting the company's ongoing evaluation of potential additions.

While no official reasons have been given, fan speculation points to the game's relative youth (launched October 2024) and ongoing balancing challenges. Although in-app competitive features exist, the game's simplified mechanics, designed for broader accessibility, may not align perfectly with the demands of a high-stakes competitive environment. This contrasts with the established complexity of the physical Pokémon Trading Card Game.
