Hollow Knight fans are once again caught up in a wave of speculation surrounding *Hollow Knight: Silksong*, all thanks to a cryptic Twitter (X) post and—believe it or not—a cake. With the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement scheduled for January 16, 2025, excitement reached a fever pitch when one of the game’s creators, William Pellen, hinted at something big just before the reveal.

On January 15, 2025, William Pellen posted on X that "something big is coming. Keep your eyes closed tomorrow." This message appeared just before the official Switch 2 reveal, sparking immediate speculation among fans about what could be next for *Hollow Knight: Silksong*. As usual, the community responded with questions about the game's release date, but things took an unexpected turn the following day.

During the Switch 2 announcement livestream on January 16, Pellen updated his profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search revealed it was a photo from a Bon Appétit article featuring the Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe, published on April 2, 2024. Pellen had also commented on the article with “mmmm tasty,” prompting fans to dig deeper into the connection.

Some fans began linking the cake to the upcoming Nintendo Direct scheduled for April 2, 2025—the exact date mentioned in the recipe post. One fan even joked, “If we get real Silksong news by April 2nd 2025, I will bake this cake.” Another chimed in with a comment reading, “Loved the silky texture. This goes directly in my favorite recipes,” cleverly tying the game’s theme and the Switch 2 Direct together.

While there's no way to confirm whether Pellen himself left those specific comments, his choice of profile picture appears intentional. Whether it's a genuine hint or just a coincidence remains unclear, but fans are treating it as a sign worth watching.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Official Announcement Five Years Ago

Silksong Speculations Rage (Again) Because of a Cake

*Hollow Knight: Silksong* was officially announced on February 14, 2019, with plans to launch on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. As a direct sequel to the beloved indie hit, *Silksong* follows Hornet in a new world filled with mystery, silk, and music.

In December 2019, Team Cherry shared a preview of the game’s soundtrack, composed by Christopher Larkin. However, after that update, silence fell over the development team for more than two years.

They finally reappeared in February 2022, when Pellen reassured fans that the game was still in active development and promised updates would arrive closer to release. Then, during the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase in June 2022, Team Cherry released a brand-new gameplay trailer and confirmed that *Silksong* would be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.

Although originally expected to launch in 2023, Team Cherry representative Matthew Griffin announced a delay in May 2023. He explained, “We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can.”

Now, after more than five years since its initial reveal, the fanbase remains strong and engaged. Community forums continue to buzz with theories, discussions, and hopeful speculation. While official updates have been scarce since the delay announcement, fans remain patient, eagerly awaiting any new details about *Silksong*—and perhaps, another slice of cake.
