Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Adds SpongeBob, Avatar, TMNT

by Liam Feb 18,2026

Earlier this month, Sega confirmed that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will feature guest characters including Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza, Joker from Persona 5, and even Steve, Alex, and the Creeper from Minecraft. The list of special guests doesn't stop there. Sega has now revealed a collaboration with Nickelodeon, bringing SpongeBob SquarePants to the race tracks, along with a hint that characters from Avatar and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will join the roster later.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is a kart racing game filled with Sega characters, celebrating the company's rich legacy. High-profile guest characters are also being added to expand the lineup of racers. Players who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition will receive the Season Pass, which includes the Nickelodeon content, the recently announced Minecraft characters, vehicles, and tracks, characters from the Netflix series Sonic Prime, and two more unannounced collaborations.

The trailer below showcases SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star racing in the Patty Wagon—a vehicle shaped like a Krabby Patty from the SpongeBob series—on the Bikini Bottom track, the main setting of the show.

Sega has confirmed that CrossWorlds will include a massive roster of over playable characters when downloadable content is counted. Alongside expected characters like Sonic, Dr. Eggman, Knuckles, Shadow, and Tails, racers such as SpongeBob SquarePants are now part of the action.

CrossWorlds will compete with the Switch 2 exclusive Mario Kart World, which has so far avoided adding guest characters outside of Nintendo's own universe. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is scheduled to launch on both the original Switch and the Switch 2, setting the stage for a classic Mario vs. Sonic kart racing showdown when Sega’s title releases in September.

IGN recently got hands-on time with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and came away impressed. “It’s a vibe,” we said, “and one that I’ve enjoyed and will look forward to drifting through.”
