South Park Delays Episode Airing Amid Ongoing Controversy

by Ellie Oct 19,2026

South Park will not air a new episode this week as Season 27 of the Comedy Central series continues its bi-weekly pattern of sharp critiques aimed at the Trump administration.

While previous seasons released episodes weekly, viewers must now wait an additional week as the show settles into this new rhythm. Instead, Comedy Central is marking the long-running animated series' anniversary today, August 13, by declaring it South Park Day (via The Hollywood Reporter).

The event will feature a network programming schedule packed with beloved episodes like "Casa Bonita," "Fishsticks," and "Make Love, Not Warcraft," alongside interviews with creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and exclusive behind-the-scenes content.

Consequently, audiences must wait until next week for the still-unnamed third episode of South Park Season 27. Fans have been eager since the season premiere, "Sermon on the Mount," which featured Parker and Stone delivering unambiguous satire targeting Donald Trump's policies, appearance, and more. Its July 23 debut also included jokes from Eric Cartman and other characters about Comedy Central's parent company, Paramount, following backlash over its merger with Skydance and the controversial cancellation of *The Late Show With Stephen Colbert*.

Season 27's second episode, "Got A Nut," aired two weeks later, after an unexpected scheduling delay also caused it to skip a week. This installment continued the show's fierce criticism of the Trump administration, shifting focus to U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem (the latter being the subject of a new extended ending that is not suitable for animal lovers).

By any measure, South Park Season 27 has been brutally unrestrained, making the wait between episodes particularly agonizing for its audience. The current season is planned to run for 10 episodes, though it remains uncertain if the bi-weekly release schedule will continue.

Despite the extended waits, Season 27 is proving to be one of the show's most successful runs since its 1997 debut. "Sermon on the Mount" earned a place in TV history with 6 million viewers across Paramount platforms on premiere night, while live viewership for "Got A Nut" increased by 25 percent.

We will have to wait to discover what surprises Parker and Stone have prepared for Season 27, Episode 3. In the meantime, you can explore the creators' own commentary on "Sermon on the Mount" from their appearance at San Diego Comic-Con last month. You can also learn about their recent $1.5 billion agreement with Paramount, which commits the duo to producing 50 new South Park episodes over the next five years.
