"Switch 2 Launch Games Predicted"

by Logan May 26,2025

With the much-anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, fans are buzzing with excitement about what games might launch alongside it. While an official lineup remains under wraps, let's dive into some educated guesses about what could be in store for us on day one.

3 ImagesWe know it's a stretch to hope for all these titles on launch day, but even a few of them would make the Switch 2's debut unforgettable. Here's what we're hoping to see:

Mario Kart 9

It's been over a decade since the release of Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U, which evolved into the definitive kart racing experience on the Switch. With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and multiple DLCs, it boasts an impressive 96 circuits and remains a top seller. A new installment, Mario Kart 9, rumored to feature a "new twist," could redefine the series and would be a perfect launch title for the Switch 2. While Nintendo hasn't confirmed it yet, the anticipation is high for fresh innovations that could carry the series forward for another decade.

New 3D Super Mario

Given the legacy of Super Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy, it's surprising the original Switch only received Super Mario Odyssey in 2017. A new 3D Mario game launching with the Switch 2 would be a dream come true, featuring inventive level design and unique abilities. While hoping for both a new Mario Kart and a 3D Mario might be ambitious, even one of these would signal a strong start for the new console.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Metroid fans have been eagerly waiting for Metroid Prime 4 since its announcement in 2017. After a development shift from Bandai Namco to Retro Studios, the game resurfaced in 2024 as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The gameplay reveal was so impressive that it hinted at the Switch 2's capabilities. Launching this long-awaited title on the new console would be a thrilling way to kick things off.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom Enhanced

Two of the Switch's biggest successes, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, could make a powerful return on the Switch 2. With potential backward compatibility and an enhanced "boost" mode, or even dedicated remastered versions, these games could showcase the new console's power, offering Hyrule in stunning 4K resolution.

Ring Fit Adventure 2

Nintendo often surprises us with quirky launch titles. Following the success of Ring Fit Adventure, which sold over 15 million copies, a sequel could leverage the Switch 2's new features for an even more engaging fitness RPG experience. This could be the perfect way to showcase the console's innovative capabilities.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

While the original Switch couldn't handle the Resident Evil 4 remake, the Switch 2 might be up to the task. Bringing this critically acclaimed game to Nintendo's platform would not only demonstrate the console's power but also pay homage to the game's origins on the GameCube.

Doom: The Dark Ages

Though a bit of a long shot, Doom: The Dark Ages could find a home on the Switch 2. With previous Doom titles on the original Switch and Microsoft's openness to multi-platform releases, it's not impossible. A new Doom game would be a fantastic addition to the launch lineup, ready for players to "rip and tear" on the go.

The Haunted Chocolatier

Stardew Valley's success on the Switch sets the stage for ConcernedApe's next project, The Haunted Chocolatier. This unique blend of chocolate shop management and action-RPG elements with a ghostly twist could be the perfect fit for the Switch 2's launch. While a day-one release might be optimistic, a launch year window seems plausible.

Earthblade

Following the beloved Celeste, Earthblade from Extremely OK Games is another indie gem to watch. Described as a "2D explor-action" game with beautiful pixel art, its release in 2025 aligns perfectly with the Switch 2's launch window. This could be a delightful addition to the new console's library.
