ScratchJr: A Fun Introduction to Coding for Young Children (Ages 5-7)
ScratchJr is a user-friendly programming language designed for young children (ages 5 and up) to create interactive stories and games. Kids use colorful, graphical blocks to program characters, making them move, jump, sing, and dance. They can even personalize their creations by adding photos of themselves, their own voices, and sounds using the built-in paint editor.
Inspired by the popular Scratch programming language, ScratchJr simplifies the interface and coding concepts to match the developmental needs of younger children. The app carefully considers cognitive, personal, social, and emotional development in its design.
We believe coding is a fundamental skill, much like reading and writing. It helps children organize their thoughts and express their ideas creatively. ScratchJr makes coding accessible to everyone, fostering self-expression and problem-solving abilities.
Through coding with ScratchJr, children learn to create and interact with computers on a new level. They develop essential sequencing skills, crucial for future academic success, and apply math and language skills in a fun and engaging way. It’s not just about learning to code; it’s about coding to learn.
