Nintendo Switch 2 Image Reveals C Button on Joy-Con

by Andrew May 14,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, putting an end to widespread speculation. This confirmation came through the newly released Nintendo Today! app, where an image in the App Store and Google Play listings clearly shows the letter "C" on the button.

The C button was first revealed alongside the Switch 2 earlier this year, although initial images of the new Joy-Con did not display any letter on the button. However, prior reports had suggested it would be called the “C” button, and those rumors have now been verified.

Speculation about the function of the C button is rampant. Some believe it could be used for wirelessly casting the Switch 2 to a TV or for screen sharing. Others speculate that it might switch the Joy-Con's functionality, such as toggling into a mouse mode. There's also talk that it could be linked to new group or voice chat features.

PlayNintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, which should shed more light on this and other features. Until then, here’s what we know for certain:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for release in 2025, though it's unlikely to be available before June based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • The Switch 2 is larger than its predecessor, featuring bigger Joy-Con that appear capable of functioning as a mouse.
  • The device includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Switch 2 is backward compatible, with the reveal video confirming it plays both physical and digital games from the original Switch, as well as exclusive Switch 2 titles. However, certain games from the original Switch might not be fully supported or compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is set to launch for the Nintendo Switch 2.

In other news, Nintendo recently hosted a Direct focused on the original Switch, during which the Nintendo Today! app was announced. Video game legend Shigeru Miyamoto revealed this new app during the showcase, describing it as a comprehensive hub for Nintendo fans. The app serves as a daily calendar and news feed, keeping players updated on the latest happenings. Following the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, fans can use the Nintendo Today app to stay informed with daily updates.
