Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay Affects Canada Due to Tariffs

by Ava Apr 11,2025

Gamers were left reeling last week when the eagerly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows?" This change came after import tariffs introduced by President Trump caused turmoil in financial markets, affecting plans across the border as well. Nintendo Canada has confirmed that pre-orders in their region are also on hold, dashing any hopes of securing one through a relative in Winnipeg.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not commence on April 9, 2025, in order to synchronize with the yet-to-be-determined pre-order schedule in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada in a release to Canadian tech outlet MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will announce updated details in due time. The launch date remains June 5, 2025."

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not begin on April 9, 2025, as we evaluate the effects of tariffs and changing market dynamics. Nintendo will provide updated pre-order dates soon. The launch remains scheduled for June 5, 2025.

Despite the original pre-order date being tomorrow, there's still no clarity on when gamers can start their eager browser refreshes and credit card checks, leaving them in a state of uncertainty and worried about potential price hikes beyond the originally announced price of $449.99.

In other parts of the world, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have started in the UK today, with smaller outlets like EE, GAME, and Smyths selling out rapidly. Scalpers have taken to eBay, listing pre-orders for £500 ($639) or higher, well above the official retail price of £395.99 ($506).
