Bandai Namco is set to bring the excitement of the Digimon universe to mobile devices with their latest offering, Digimon Alysion. This digital adaptation of the Digimon Card Game is slated for release on both Android and iOS platforms as a free-to-play title, although an exact launch date remains undisclosed.
The announcement came during the highly anticipated Digimon Con 2025 event on March 19th. Alongside this reveal, Bandai Namco shared updates on other projects, including the continuation of Digimon Liberator with a new arc set for April 2025. They also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Digimon anime with a special video and unveiled plans for a new project, Digimon Adventure: Beyond, along with a new RPG titled Digimon Story: Time Stranger, which will be available on consoles and PC.
Digimon Alysion: More Than Just a Card Game
Digimon Alysion isn't merely a direct port of the physical Digimon Card Game. It introduces 'DigiAly' cards, a unique feature designed specifically for this digital version, alongside the traditional cards. Bandai Namco is also set to introduce new Digimon and characters, adding fresh content to the game.
Interestingly, the character lineup showcased on the game's website leans heavily towards an all-female cast, a departure from the norm in digital card games. This has sparked some skepticism among fans, particularly those who were hoping for a faithful representation of the physical game.
This isn't Bandai Namco's first foray into the Digimon mobile gaming space. Past attempts have not been successful, leading to some reservations about whether Digimon Alysion can break the cycle. Despite these concerns, anticipation for the game remains high. A closed beta test is currently in the planning stages, though specifics are yet to be announced.
