Zach Cregger, renowned for directing the horror film Barbarian and as a member of the comedy troupe The Whitest Kids You Know, is now set to helm a reboot of the iconic Capcom survival horror series, Resident Evil. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a fierce bidding war is currently underway for the distribution rights of Cregger's vision, with major studios like Netflix and Warner Bros. among the four contenders vying to bring his project to audiences.
Cregger gained critical acclaim with his 2022 horror hit Barbarian, which centers on a woman uncovering a terrifying secret in a rental home. Following this success, he has completed his next film, Weapons, which has reportedly scored exceptionally well in test screenings.

This new *Resident Evil* reboot marks the second attempt to refresh the franchise on screen. Previously, Paul W.S. Anderson directed a series of six films featuring Milla Jovovich, which, despite deviating from the source material, amassed a global box office of $1.2 billion. In 2021, Johannes Roberts' *Welcome to Raccoon City* aimed for a more faithful adaptation but fell short of the quality set by Capcom's original games.Constantin Film, in collaboration with PlayStation Productions, will produce this latest reboot.
