How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To romance Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, you must break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you'll need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Upon completing the offering, a dramatic cutscene unfolds where the Mines Priestess warns you to leave or risk being sealed yourself. As your health dwindles, Caldarus appears, transforms into his human form, and rescues you, leaving behind the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods.

Once transformed, you can interact with Caldarus just like any other romanceable NPC in Fields of Mistria. You can give him gifts and engage in daily conversations. After breaking the Fire Seal, Caldarus can be found at his temple in the Deep Woods, which you can permanently unlock using the Dragon’s Breath spell.

Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

With the March 2025 update, Caldarus starts with a heart level of six, which is currently the cap. As of now, there are no additional heart events for Caldarus, but more are expected in future updates.

Currently, there are only a couple of cutscenes featuring Caldarus. The first is a brief dream sequence at the game's start, introducing you to Mistria’s magic system and mechanics. The second occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus saves you from being sealed and reveals his human form before retreating to recover in the Deep Woods.

A new feature with the March 2025 update is the ability to go on a real date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival is an end-of-summer event in Fields of Mistria where you can take any romanceable NPC with a heart level of four or higher on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. With Caldarus starting at six hearts, you're automatically eligible to go with him. To set up the date, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet him afterward to confirm your attendance. This will trigger a special cutscene.

During the date at the Summit, Caldarus expresses gratitude for the invitation and shares insights on the stars and the Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. You’ll have various dialogue options to discuss soul connections and the nature of relationships. The conversation touches on deeper themes, with Caldarus musing about past lives and connections. As the night progresses, he invites you to spend the rest of the evening watching the stars from his temple.
