Slaying monsters is exhilarating, but sometimes you need their parts, which means capturing them. Here's how to capture monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Capturing Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds
Capturing monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds is surprisingly straightforward. Weaken the monster, trap it, then tranquilize it. Simple as that!
Your Palico will alert you when a monster is weak. Other indicators include a skull icon above the monster on your minimap, and noticeable limping or drooling from the weakened beast.
Once the monster shows signs of weakness, deploy a trap. Use either a Shock Trap or a Pitfall Trap, strategically placing it on the ground. Lure the monster onto the trap. Once trapped, it'll be incapacitated for a short time—your window to use Tranq Bombs. Usually one or two will suffice. Alternatively, craft Tranq Ammo or Tranq Blades, depending on your weapon and preferred playstyle.
Successfully capturing a monster ends the quest and returns you to Base Camp.
How to Get Traps and Tranq Items
While your Palico might occasionally set traps, it's best to bring your own. There are two trap types: Pitfall Traps and Shock Traps. Pitfall Traps require a Trap Tool and a Net (Spiderwebs or Ivy). Shock Traps need a Trap Tool and a Thunderbug Capacitor.
For tranquilizers, craft Tranq Bombs using a Sleep Herb and a Parashroom. These can be combined with Throwing Knives for Tranq Blades or Normal Ammo for Tranq Ammo.
