CD Projekt Red has announced that Ciri will take center stage in The Witcher 4, marking a significant shift in the series' narrative. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explained that this transition from Geralt to Ciri is a natural progression, aligning with both the evolution of the game series and the overarching storyline in Andrzej Sapkowski's original novels.
Mitrega highlighted that Geralt's story arc reached its conclusion in The Witcher 3, setting the stage for Ciri to step into the spotlight. With her rich background from the books and games, Ciri offers a wealth of potential for new storytelling avenues. Director Sebastian Kalemba added that Ciri's younger age provides players with greater flexibility to influence her development, an opportunity not available with the more established character of Geralt.
The shift to Ciri as the protagonist has been under consideration for nearly a decade, underscoring CD Projekt Red's long-term vision for her role in the series. Kalemba noted that the fresh challenges and perspectives Ciri brings to the table will lay the groundwork for an epic new saga in The Witcher universe.
Doug Cockle, the voice behind Geralt, has expressed his support for the change, recognizing Ciri's potential as a lead character. While Geralt will still appear in The Witcher 4, he will take a backseat to Ciri, enhancing the new narrative direction the game is set to explore.
