Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has surpassed one million copies sold, according to publisher Kepler Interactive’s latest announcement.
The game’s momentum was evident from the start, having reached the 500,000-unit sales mark within just 24 hours of release. Now, that number has doubled in a short span of time, signaling strong player engagement and enthusiasm for the title.
“We made it. Three days after launch. One million copies sold. Thank you for believing in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33,” the development team at Sandfall Interactive shared on social media over the weekend.
That’s not all the game has achieved. According to data from SteamDB, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 hit a peak of 121,422 concurrent players on Steam — a notable figure that outpaces even the highest simultaneous player count of major RPG studio Atlus’ recent releases, including the highly praised Metaphor: ReFantazio, which reached a peak of 85,961 players upon its October 2024 launch.
It's important to note that these concurrency numbers only reflect Steam activity, while Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched simultaneously on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S, and was also available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate from day one. This multi-platform availability likely means the actual number of players who engaged with the game over the launch weekend is significantly higher.
In IGN’s 9/10 review of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the publication hailed it as a "modern RPG classic." The game comes from newly formed developer Sandfall Interactive and delivers a deep turn-based RPG experience rooted in genre traditions. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the story follows a group of Expeditioners tasked with stopping the mysterious entity known as The Paintress — a being responsible for resetting humanity’s age each year by erasing those older than the new number she inscribes.
