Sonic BombThe Quematrice, a giant chicken-like beast reminiscent of a Cockatrice, breathes fire instead of turning hunters to stone—a welcome change! Its mid-size makes it vulnerable to most weapons, but its area-of-effect attacks might favor ranged weapons for less experienced hunters.
While its tail sweeps and strikes can inflict damage, the most potent attack is its tail slam. This involves a dramatic upward swing followed by a powerful downward strike. Sidestepping or blocking effectively counters this. However, its fire attacks are the real threat, causing direct damage, burning effects (draining health), and even igniting the ground.
These fire attacks lack a clear tell. One attack sees it rear its head, roar, and fling flames from its tail. Another involves a full sweep after a head and tail raise, engulfing its surroundings in fire. It can also combine this with a charging attack, running towards you before unleashing a fiery turn. Ranged hunters should back away to avoid this.
How to Capture Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing the Quematrice requires preparation. Bring a Shock Trap, a Pitfall Trap, and at least two Tranq Bombs. While one trap suffices, a backup is crucial in case of escape or interference from other monsters.
Once the Quematrice is significantly weakened (limping, or its skull icon on the minimap is consistently fading), set your trap. Ideally, wait until it moves to a new area after limping away for easier capture. Lure it into the trap, toss two Tranq Bombs, and the fiery beast is yours!
