Skateboarding Returns: Console Playtesting for the Highly Anticipated "skate." Begins
Good news for console gamers! The long-awaited "skate." title, a fresh entry in the beloved Skate franchise, is now available for playtesting on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While PC players have been enjoying test phases since mid-2022, this marks the first opportunity for Xbox and PlayStation users to experience a new Skate game in over 15 years.
The last official Skate release, Skate 3, debuted in 2010. Despite a dedicated fanbase, EA seemingly shelved the franchise. However, persistent fan support, notably the #Skate4 hashtag, finally led to the creation of a dedicated development studio and the announcement of a new title. Initial plans called for early access in 2025, and this console playtest is a significant step toward that goal.
The playtest, announced via the official "skate." Twitter account, is accessible through the "skate." Insider program, requiring registration. A recent video featuring developers confirmed additional Black hairstyle options and playfully addressed the "Fall 2024" playtest announcement.
Confirmed as a free-to-play, live-service game, details about "skate." remain limited. The skateboarding simulator is set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, a work-in-progress inspired by San Vanelona, Port Carverton, and real-world locations. While a map leaked in 2023, significant changes are likely. Fans can participate in the playtest or wait for the wider release.
Other Skate Games to Enjoy in the Interim
While early access is targeted for 2025, delays are always a possibility. Fortunately, several other skateboarding games offer enjoyable alternatives until "skate." officially launches.
