The critically acclaimed series *Shōgun*, which swept 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for a highly anticipated second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis, who portrayed the pilot John Blackthorn in the first season, will reprise his role and step into the position of co-executive producer for Season 2. Joining him, lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays Lord Yoshii Toranaga, signed on for the new season last May and has been elevated to the role of executive producer after contributing to the original series.
Production for Season 2 is scheduled to commence in January 2026, returning to the original filming location in Vancouver. The network describes the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which was an adaptation of James Clavell's novel. FX elaborates on the narrative continuity:
"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. The arrival of a mysterious European ship, piloted by John Blackthorne, provided Toranaga with critical strategic insights that shifted the balance of power, ultimately helping him secure victory in a pivotal civil war.
"Season two, set a decade after the events of the first, will continue the historically-inspired saga of these two men from vastly different worlds, whose destinies remain deeply intertwined."
Fans of the series can look forward to new episodes by the end of 2026, provided everything goes according to plan. Until then, anticipation and excitement continue to build for this exceptional show.
