Idris Elba envisions a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film with Keanu Reeves
Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has expressed his strong desire for a live-action adaptation of the game, starring himself and Keanu Reeves. He recently shared this exciting prospect with ScreenRant. The potential reunion stems from their collaboration on the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where Elba reprises his role as Knuckles and Reeves joins the cast as Shadow the Hedgehog.
When asked about a possible Cyberpunk 2077 movie pairing with Reeves, Elba enthusiastically stated, "Oh, man, that's a great question. I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077], and I think his character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa.’ So, let's speak that into existence." Elba played Solomon Reed in Phantom Liberty, while Reeves portrayed the iconic Johnny Silverhand in the main game.
This isn't just wishful thinking. Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is underway, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content. While details remain scarce a year after the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the live-action Witcher series suggests a Cyberpunk live-action adaptation is a strong possibility.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners expands with prequel manga and Blu-ray release
Beyond the live-action possibilities, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched, focusing on Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's crew. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also planned for 2025, and a new animated series is in development.
