Can You Date Romance Options in Fields of Mistria?

In Fields of Mistria, you cannot technically date romance options at the moment. However, the game's romance system is still incredibly engaging and worth exploring, even with its current limitations. After dedicating over 100 hours to win March's affection, I can confidently say that the $13.99 price on Steam is well justified.
The game's first major update in November 2024 expanded the heart cap from four to six and introduced a new heart event for each romanceable NPC, marking significant relationship milestones. These events unlock at two, four, and six hearts, with NPC Studio planning to add eight- and ten-heart events in future updates. However, no specific dates or details have been shared beyond the upcoming March 2025 update, which will not include a higher heart level cap or new heart events.

While the inability to date might disappoint some new players, Fields of Mistria offers a compelling romance experience as it stands. The game's dialogue is rich and realistic, often veering into flirty territory with romance options. The heart events, though potentially platonic at first glance, leave room for romantic interpretation and deepen your relationships as you progress, making the romantic development feel exceptionally rewarding.

New players shouldn't be deterred by the lack of dating. The last major update introduced the Shooting Star Festival, a summer event where you can initiate a date-like experience with eligible NPCs once you reach four hearts. Currently, you can also spend an evening watching the stars with Caldarus, though this doesn't trigger a date at the Summit as it does with other romance options. This might change with the March 2025 update, which is expected to unlock the dragon's romance questline.
Although you can't officially date NPCs in Fields of Mistria yet, there's plenty to keep players engaged until this feature is added.
