Days Gone Remastered $10 PS5 Upgrade Unavailable for PS Plus Redemptions

by Samuel May 12,2025

During Sony’s recent State of Play showcase, the announcement of *Days Gone Remastered* stood out, but it has sparked some controversy among PlayStation Plus subscribers due to its $10 upgrade policy. Sony has specified that this upgrade, which is available for those who own the PlayStation 4 disc or a digital copy of *Days Gone*, is not extended to those who obtained the game through the PS Plus subscription service. This means that if you got *Days Gone* through PS Plus—whether from the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or as an Essential monthly game in April 2021—you won't be eligible for the discounted upgrade and will have to pay the full $49.99 to enjoy the PS5 remastered version.

This decision has led to a wave of discontent among PS Plus subscribers, many of whom have taken to online forums like the PlayStation Plus subreddit to express their frustration. Users such as squarejellyfish_ have pointed out that Sony could have made a significant profit by allowing PS Plus players to upgrade for $10, as many would be willing to pay that amount to try out the remastered version for a short time. Similarly, teckn9ne79 mentioned they would pay the upgrade fee but not the full price, while dredizzle99 labeled the decision as "pretty stupid," suggesting that Sony is missing out on potential sales from the PS Plus community. Jackanyon95 criticized the move, stating that since the game was previously given away for free, Sony could have earned an additional $10 from each PS Plus owner, but instead chose to exclude them, calling the decision "awkward."

Despite the backlash, some PS Plus subscribers acknowledge that Sony likely made this decision after careful financial analysis, believing it to be the most profitable route. However, this hasn't stopped the company from being branded as "stingy" by some of its loyal fans, who were hoping for a more generous approach from PlayStation.

*Days Gone Remastered* was not the only highlight of the State of Play event. For a full rundown of all the announcements, check out IGN’s coverage of the State of Play February 2025 showcase.
