Seven years after its initial release, Destiny 1's Tower has received an unexpected and unexplained festive makeover. The social hub now boasts a surprising array of lights and decorations, leaving players both delighted and puzzled. This unannounced update, appearing on January 5th, has sparked considerable speculation within the community.

The original Destiny, while still playable, largely faded into the background following the launch of Destiny 2 in 2017. While Bungie continues to integrate legacy content into the sequel – including popular raids and exotic weapons – this spontaneous Tower update remains a complete enigma.

The decorations bear a resemblance to past seasonal events, particularly The Dawning, featuring Ghost-shaped lights. However, the lack of accompanying quests, messages, or snow suggests this isn't a planned event.

A Forgotten Relic from a Scrapped Event?

The leading theory points towards a cancelled event, tentatively titled "Days of the Dawning," originally scheduled for 2016. Reddit users, including Breshi, have highlighted the striking similarity between unused assets from this scrapped event and the current Tower decorations. The prevailing belief is that a placeholder date was mistakenly set far into the future, resulting in this unexpected resurgence of forgotten assets.

Bungie has yet to comment on this unexpected development. With the transition to Destiny 2 in 2017, all live events shifted to the sequel, leaving the original Destiny largely untouched. Therefore, while unofficial and temporary, players are encouraged to log in and enjoy this unexpected holiday surprise before it's inevitably removed.
