Dune: Awakening developer confirmed the game will have its full release with no monthly subscription. Read on to learn more about the developer's updates regarding the game and the different game editions players can purchase.
Dune: Awakening Coming on May 20
No Early Access and No Monthly Subscription
Dune: Awakening developer Funcom confirmed that the game’s expected launch date on May 20 will be its full release, not an early access. The game’s latest blog post on Steam on March 21 provided more information regarding its business model, system requirements, and post-launch plans.
The upcoming multiplayer survival game, inspired by the iconic 1965 epic science fiction novel, will not follow the monthly subscription model seen in competitors like Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online. Instead, Dune: Awakening "will continue to be expanded through free updates, bringing new content, features, and enhancements."
Funcom emphasized their commitment to long-term support post-launch, drawing on their experience with live service games. Other MMO titles by Funcom, such as Anarchy Online, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year, and Conan Exiles, which continues to receive free updates, DLCs, and expansions, showcase their dedication to ongoing game development.
Pre-Orders Live Now and Game Editions Revealed
In the same Steam blog, the developers announced that the game will feature optional paid DLCs and that pre-orders would soon be available. Just a week later, on March 24, Dune: Awakening detailed the different editions available for purchase on their official website, along with the news that pre-orders are now live.
Pre-ordering any of the three editions—Standard, Deluxe, or Ultimate—grants players two unique in-game items: the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, a detailed in-base decoration, and the Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a unique color pattern applicable to weapons, vehicles, and armor.
Pre-ordering the Deluxe or Ultimate edition also offers a 5-day head start, allowing access to the game on May 15. The Deluxe edition includes:
- Season Pass: Includes 4 DLCs. The first will feature placeables inspired by Arrakis' wildlife, including Shai-Hulud. The next three will be released later.
- Sardaukar Bator Armor: The intimidating armor of the Sardaukar, the elite military force that hunts players in the game.
- One copy of the base game
The Ultimate edition builds on the Deluxe edition with additional exclusive items:
- Dusk Rider Sandbike Swatch: A unique color pattern for your sandbike
- Blue Dasher Ornithopter Swatch: A unique color pattern for your ornithopter
- Caladan Palace Building Set: Building pieces and placeables from the 2021 film
