As the wait for new *Grand Theft Auto 6* updates stretches on, anticipation continues to build. Following the record-breaking debut of *GTA 6 Trailer 1* in December 2023, Rockstar has remained silent—offering no new footage or official details since. This lack of communication has led to a surge of wild fan theories attempting to decode the next steps in Rockstar’s rollout plan.
Among the most popular theories are attempts to analyze every pixel of the first trailer—from counting holes in Lucia’s cell netting and bullet impacts on vehicles, to scrutinizing license plates. Perhaps the most surprising was the so-called “moon watch” theory, which accurately predicted the announcement date of *Trailer 1*, though it was later disproven as a clue for Trailer 2.
When Will GTA 6 Trailer 2 Be Released?
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has hinted that fans may not see another trailer until much closer to the game’s scheduled fall 2025 release window. But former Rockstar technical director Obbe Vermeij—who worked on *GTA IV* before departing the company—believes no further trailers should be released at all.
“If it was my call I wouldn’t release any additional trailers,” he tweeted. “There is more than enough hype around VI and the element of surprise is going to make the release only bigger as an event.”
Vermeij also responded to speculation that Rockstar might simply announce the release date without revealing anything else, stating, “It would be a boss move.”
Rockstar’s current approach mirrors this philosophy. By naming the initial video “Trailer 1,” the implication is that more will follow—but plans can change. With development likely entering its final stretch, the studio may choose to focus entirely on finishing the game rather than producing content for public consumption.
Could GTA 6 Be Delayed Again?
Vermeij recalled how Rockstar delayed *GTA IV* from its original October 16, 2007 launch date by just three months—a decision made only in July of that year. He suggested a similar scenario could unfold with *GTA 6*, with the final call possibly coming soon.
“Only at that time did it become clear we were going to miss the deadline,” Vermeij explained. “I’m guessing decision-day for VI will be similar. Fingers crossed for Take2’s August earnings report.”
Why Is Rockstar Keeping So Quiet?
In a March interview with Bloomberg, Zelnick addressed the secrecy surrounding *GTA 6*'s release date. He emphasized the importance of maintaining hype while balancing anticipation:
“The anticipation for that title may be the greatest anticipation I’ve ever seen for an entertainment property. We want to maintain the anticipation and the excitement… We provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window in order to create that excitement on the one hand and balance the excitement with unmet anticipation.”
Is Rockstar Fueling the Theories on Purpose?
Former Rockstar animator Mike York believes the studio is intentionally staying quiet—not out of negligence, but strategy. In a video on his YouTube channel, he argued that Rockstar thrives on mystery and understands how silence drives community discussion.
“They're reaching and pulling and trying to come up with these really cool theories to decipher when the next trailer will be,” York said of fans. “Specifically Rockstar, they're very secretive about what they do, and this is a really cool tactic because it creates allure and it creates mystery and it creates people talking about it without them having to do anything.”
He added, “The more they're silent the better it is, because the more people will be antsy and want to talk about it and have this feeling of not knowing what's going to happen.”
