Unveiling the Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Features
Genki, a prominent developer of gaming accessories, showcased a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design features. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions and confirms several circulating rumors.
Key features highlighted include a larger size approaching that of the Steam Deck, magnetic Joy-Con controllers with integrated optical sensors, a second USB-C port, and a currently unidentified "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con, explaining a unique detachment mechanism involving pins released by buttons on each controller. Despite the magnetic connection, Tsai assures users of a secure grip during gameplay.
The optical sensors on the Joy-Con suggest potential functionality as mouse-like input devices, a theory supported by recently leaked Switch 2 images. While the Switch 2 is slim enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock, design modifications prevent compatibility. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remain unknown.
