Rogue Loops: A Hades-Inspired Roguelike with a Twist
The upcoming indie roguelike, Rogue Loops, is generating buzz with its striking resemblance to Hades, both in art style and core gameplay loop. However, Rogue Loops introduces a unique mechanic that sets it apart. While a release date hasn't been officially announced (currently slated for early 2025 on PC), a free Steam demo allows players to experience the action firsthand.
The game features a recurring dungeon with randomized loot and ability upgrades, viewed from a top-down perspective. Drawing comparisons to Hades is inevitable, given its Steam trailer and demo. But Rogue Loops' signature twist lies in its ability upgrades: each comes with a distinct downside, significantly impacting gameplay strategy.
This mechanic echoes Hades' Chaos Gates, offering powerful buffs at the cost of detrimental effects. In Rogue Loops, however, these "curses" play a more significant role, potentially impacting the entire playthrough depending on player choices.
The narrative centers on a family trapped in a deadly time loop. Players navigate five floors of dungeons, encountering diverse enemies and bosses. As expected in a roguelike, each run unlocks procedurally generated upgrades, enabling players to craft unique character builds using both beneficial and detrimental effects.
While a precise release date remains unconfirmed, the Steam page indicates a Q1 2025 launch. Until then, the free demo (offering access to the first floor) and other similar titles like Dead Cells and Hades 2 provide ample entertainment for eager players.
