"Should You Hand Over the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?"

by Leo Apr 14,2025

In *Avowed*, one of the earliest and most impactful choices you'll encounter is whether to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas. This decision leads to various outcomes, ranging from bad to worse, and even a somewhat favorable scenario. This guide will walk you through what happens based on your choice regarding the Splinter of Eothas.

What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

Sargamis confrontation in Avowed

When you refuse to hand over the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis, the game makes it clear that you're in for a fight. True to his word, Sargamis engages you in combat, turning into an optional boss with a significant health bar. This early-game encounter can be quite challenging.

Sargamis calls upon two spirit creatures to assist him, though they primarily target Kai, leaving you somewhat unhindered. He employs swift thrusting attacks with his sword, allowing him to close distances quickly. However, he's vulnerable to freezing, so equipping ice spells can be advantageous to slow him down.

Upon defeating Sargamis, you'll earn the Last Light of Day mace, a unique weapon that not only restores 3% of your health upon defeating an enemy but also boosts your attacks with a 10% fire damage bonus.

After agreeing to give the Splinter to Sargamis, you face multiple paths. You can still change your mind, triggering an immediate attack from Sargamis. Alternatively, you can attempt to persuade him to place himself in the statue, resulting in his death and granting you the Last Light of Day mace.

Another choice is to offer yourself to the statue. If you stand in the designated circle and allow Sargamis to activate the machine, you'll die but earn the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Reloading *Avowed* will bring you back to the point before entering the circle. If you decide to leave the circle when instructed to stand still, Sargamis will attack you in a fit of rage.

How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed

Convincing Sargamis in Avowed

The most favorable outcome involves convincing Sargamis that his plan won't succeed. This requires an Intellect stat of 4 or higher, so consider using our *Avowed* respec guide to adjust your attributes if necessary. Place the Splinter in the statue before speaking with Sargamis, activate the machine, and then discuss the failed attempt with him. Persuade him that his plan is doomed to fail, leading him to abandon it.

The Court Augur and Arcane Scholar background options are key to initiating this path, though other backgrounds may offer similar choices. Avoid selecting the intellect option about live soul transfer, and instead, guide Sargamis to realize that Eothas is gone.

After Sargamis leaves, you can choose to let the voice use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, find Sargamis in his quarters to conclude this segment of the Dawntreader quest, earning more experience than if you had fought him or handed over the Splinter.

This covers the decision on whether to give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in *Avowed*. If you're new to Obsidian's RPG, check out our *Avowed* beginner's guide for useful tips. *Avowed* is now available on PC and Xbox.
