The PC and PS5 console-exclusive Lost Soul Aside launched today on August 29, yet it has already garnered a 'Mixed' Steam review rating from over 300 players. Many users have highlighted significant performance and optimization issues.
Developer Ultizero Games responded swiftly, confirming in a statement that they had "received feedback regarding the performance of certain cutscenes within the prologue of Lost Soul Aside" and were "actively implementing optimizations."
"Some pre-rendered cutscenes are currently exported as 4K/30fps videos, which can lead to occasional stuttering during playback," the team clarified. "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your understanding."
"The Lost Soul Aside development team is actively working on optimizations, with future updates set to resolve these issues for a smoother gameplay experience. Thank you for your continued support and patience!"
Notably, no specific timeline was given, leaving the release date of the fix uncertain. Meanwhile, Steam continues to receive reviews from dissatisfied players.
"I’ve finished the prologue of Lost Soul Aside, and in its current state, I can’t recommend it," one player said. Another added: "I assumed movement felt jerky due to frame drops, but walking actually looks like that lmao. The walking animation and camera work are so bad they’re honestly impressive."
"I’ve only played for three hours, but I’m torn on this game," another Steam reviewer commented. "On one hand, the visuals are top-tier and the combat is decent (a tier below Stellar Blade, in my opinion). These were the two features consistently teased and promised by Yang Bing and his studio, who finally delivered. However, everything else feels rather chaotic."
Lost Soul Aside is a stylish single-player action-adventure RPG where you fight dimensional invaders to save your sister. Originally slated for a May release, after nearly ten years in development, Lost Soul Aside was delayed three months from May 30 to August 29.
