The excitement is building as the next season of Daredevil approaches, and the show's creators are already looking ahead, possibly even to a reunion of The Defenders. In an in-depth profile featured in Entertainment Weekly, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ head of streaming and television, expressed enthusiasm about the potential to bring back the street-level heroes Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist.
While nothing has been officially confirmed, Winderbaum shared with EW, “It’s certainly exciting to be able to play in that sandbox… Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book, [where] if you can draw it, you can do it. We’re dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television.”
He further elaborated, “But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring.”
It's known that Daredevil: Born Again will continue the narrative established in the Netflix series. Netflix had previously introduced its own Marvel universe, albeit on a smaller scale, through shows like Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Winderbaum’s statements suggest that Daredevil: Born Again could serve as a springboard to bring these characters back into the fold, this time under Disney's banner on Disney Plus. The inclusion of Jon Bernthal's Punisher in the new season is a testament to this transition from Netflix to Disney Plus.
As we eagerly await the premiere of Daredevil: Born Again on March 4, we'll need to see how the series unfolds before speculating on its potential connections to the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
