Marvel Snap, developed by California-based Second Dinner and published by ByteDance's Nuverse, faced an unexpected ban in certain regions, resulting in its removal from iOS and Android platforms on January 18, 2025. This ban also affected other ByteDance apps, including CapCut and Lemon8, though some, such as Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground, remained accessible. The ban caught players off guard, leaving many frustrated by authorization issues and the lack of prior warning, particularly those who had recently made in-app purchases.
Despite the setback, Marvel Snap remains available on Steam for PC users. Second Dinner has publicly stated its commitment to restoring the game's availability on mobile platforms, assuring players via Platform X that, "Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress."
The timing of the ban is particularly unfortunate given the recent introduction of the Moonstone card. Moonstone, a 4/6 cost Ongoing card, presents a significant meta shift. Her ability to copy the Ongoing effects of 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane offers substantial power generation potential, especially considering the existing number of low-cost Ongoing cards like Ant-Man and U.S. Agent. Unlike these cards which primarily focus on power generation through their effects, Moonstone's ability to passively acquire these effects provides a significant advantage.
