While being over-leveled can simplify the game, maintaining a level comparable to Palace Rulers is vital, especially on a new playthrough. Several strategies, from Confidant skills to Mementos enhancements, significantly improve EXP farming. Even unused Personas can earn EXP with the right skill.
Accessories & The Moon Arcana
Mishima Yuuki's Confidant
Equip the free DLC "Team Glasses" for a 15% EXP boost. Remember, only active party members directly gain EXP in battle.
Rank 3 and 5 of the Moon Confidant (Yuuki Mishima) grant EXP to reserve party members. Reaching Rank 10 ensures they receive the same EXP as front-line fighters. Prioritize dialogue choices that resonate with Mishima and bring a Moon Arcana Persona. Note that Mementos missions are now linked to his Confidant progression.
Mementos: Boosting EXP
Cognition of Mementos
Jose, a new character in P5R, offers significant gameplay advantages. Collect Mementos "flowers" and "Stamps" to exchange for items or modify Mementos Cognition. Increase EXP gain to 110% (5 Stamps) or 200% (12 Stamps). While there are 165 Stamps in total, maximizing EXP requires 85. Stamps are found in dead ends behind breakable walls. Jose appears randomly on new Mementos floors.
Conquering the Reaper
What Level is the Reaper?
The Reaper, a formidable foe, appears after prolonged stays on a Mementos floor. Defeating him yields substantial EXP and money. He's level 85 with high stats, making him challenging early on. Aim for level 60+ before engaging. Utilize defense buffs and Makarakarn to reflect magic. Alternatively, Izanagi-no-Okami (Picaro) with Concentrate, Heat Riser, and Myriad Truths can inflict significant Almighty damage.
Treasure Demon Takedowns
How to Summon Treasure Demons
Treasure Demons, initially encountered in Madarame's Palace, are valuable EXP sources. They flee after a few turns, but Shinya's Rank 1 "Down Shot" allows for an All-Out Attack. Alternatively, a high-crit attack (like Morgana's Miracle Punch) can work if they aren't immune to Physical. They appear more frequently in Palaces with high security. Craft the "Treasure Trap" infiltration tool (2x Silk Yarn, 3x Plant Balm, 1x Cork Bark) to increase encounters.
Harnessing Persona EXP Skills
How to Get Growth Passive Skill
Unequipped Personas usually don't gain EXP, unless they possess the "Growth" passive skill. Growth 1 (¼ EXP), Growth 2 (½ EXP), and Growth 3 (full EXP) are available. Several Personas learn Growth at various levels (see table in original text). The Electric Chair in the Velvet Room allows Persona fusion into Skill Cards, but Growth 1 and 2 cards are unavailable in P5R. Growth 3 (Izanagi Picaro) is obtainable. Growth 2 can be acquired by visiting Justine and Caroline at Miura Beach (September 2nd-29th, after event 6).
Ryuji's Confidant & Insta-Kill
How to Unlock Insta-Kill
Insta-kill allows instant Shadow defeat if Joker's level is 10 levels higher (indicated by a green outline using Third Eye). Unlock this by reaching Ryuji's Confidant Rank 7. This Confidant is relatively easy to max out, making Insta-kill accessible early in the game. In P5R, Insta-kill provides items, yen, EXP, and potentially a Persona.
