Microsoft Develops Gears of War Collection, Excludes Multiplayer

by George May 03,2025

Renowned insider and editor of Windows Central, Jez Corden, has officially confirmed that Microsoft is actively working on the Gears of War Collection. Recent speculation suggested that this compilation might exclude the franchise's iconic multiplayer mode, and Corden has verified these claims, stating that players won’t have access to competitive online play. However, he reassured fans that cooperative gameplay will remain intact, allowing players to enjoy the main story campaigns together.

Rumors indicate that an announcement for the eagerly awaited Gears of War Collection could be made as early as the upcoming Xbox Showcase event in June. While specifics on which titles will be included are still under wraps, insiders believe the collection might encompass the first three entries in the series.

In parallel, development on the next major installment, Gears of War: E-Day, is progressing using Unreal Engine 5, targeted for release on PC and Xbox Series X/S. Recent leaks hinted at a possible launch later this year, but Corden suggests a more realistic release window might be in 2026.
