MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5
Warner Bros. Games has announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus, its popular platform fighter. Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be the game's final season, concluding on May 30th, 2025.
Season 5: A Final Farewell
The official announcement, made via Twitter (X) on January 31st, 2025, confirmed that no further seasonal content updates will follow. Season 5 will introduce Aquaman and Lola Bunny as playable characters, both obtainable through gameplay. Following the season's end, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.
Offline Play Option
A silver lining for fans: offline local play will remain accessible. Players can download the latest version between February 4th, 9 AM PST and May 30th, 9 AM PDT, to retain access to local gameplay, solo against AI, or with up to three friends. A local save file will be automatically created, preserving earned and purchased content.
Real-money transactions ceased on January 31st, 2025. Remaining Gleamium can be used until Season 5 ends.
A Short but Impactful Run
Launched in July 2022 as a free-to-play title, MultiVersus quickly gained popularity, drawing comparisons to Super Smash Bros. Following a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates (new characters, rollback netcode, PvE mode, etc.), player numbers reportedly declined significantly. Despite these efforts, the game will conclude its run with 35 playable characters.
MultiVersus will be available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30th, 2025, at 9 AM PDT. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support.
