Nintendo's first post-Switch 2 Nintendo Direct Treehouse livestream has been inundated with angry comments from users demanding the company to "DROP THE PRICE." A quick look at the YouTube chat during the stream reveals a wave of frustration regarding the pricing strategy for Nintendo’s next-generation console, highlighted by the $449.99 price tag on the Switch 2 and the contentious $79.99 price for Mario Kart World.
The Nintendo Switch 2 itself is set to retail for $449.99, but a bundle option including Mario Kart World is available for $499.99, offering a $30 saving on the game. Despite this, the pricing has sparked significant backlash.

Mario Kart World isn't the only game facing criticism for its $79.99 price point; other Nintendo Switch 2 Edition titles, such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, also carry the same price.
Additionally, Nintendo has faced criticism for charging for the Switch 2 tutorial game, Welcome Tour, which many fans believe should be a free pack-in, similar to Astro's Playroom on the PlayStation 5, which serves as a complimentary tech demo for the DualSense controller.
The Nintendo Switch 2 comes with the following components:
- Nintendo Switch 2 console
- Joy-Con 2 controllers (L+R)
- Joy-Con 2 Grip
- Joy-Con 2 Straps
- Nintendo Switch 2 Dock
- Ultra High-Speed HDMI Cable
- Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter
- USB-C Charging Cable
The outrage over Nintendo's pricing strategy has now spilled into the Treehouse livestream, with the presenters choosing to ignore the chat, perhaps understandably. It appears that Nintendo will continue to face pressure from the gaming community to address these pricing concerns.
